At the City of Medicine Hat, we offer you the chance to shape the city's future and make a lasting impact. About the Role: As a Senior Accounting Assistant, you'll play a crucial role in our financial operations. Your responsibilities will include preparing monthly and quarterly operating, capital, and cash flow documents. You'll also be in charge of generating journal entries as well as reviewing and approving journal entries created by other city staff, ensuring accuracy and proper supporting documentation. Monthly account analysis, reconciliation, and assistance in preparing year-end working papers are also key tasks. Maintaining and balancing the ERP system daily will be part of your routine, and you'll collaborate closely with other city staff members beyond the Finance department. Our Ideal Candidate: We're looking for a candidate who not only possesses accounting expertise but also thrives in a complex computer environment. The ideal candidate will: Have a deep understanding of GAAP, IFRS, and PSAB accounting principles, and the ability to apply this knowledge effectively to accounting transactions. Be well-versed in transaction and processing controls and data flows related to financial accounting systems. Demonstrate excellent planning and organizational skills when dealing with multiple priorities. Establish and maintain effective working relationships, fostering a collaborative work environment. Possess the ability to use a systematic approach to interpret and resolve problems. Qualifications: To be considered for this role, you must meet the following qualifications: Successful completion of a diploma in business administration or equivalent, with a major in accounting from a recognized post-secondary institution. .
