Counselor in Training (Ages 16-20) Baroody Camps with VA Outside Job Summary: Love the outdoors and working with kids? We have the job for you! Baroody Camps with Virginia Outside is hiring we're looking for Summer Camp Counselors to help kids learn and have fun by having outdoor adventures for kids ages 6 to 15! Applicants must be comfortable working outside, work well in groups as well as be responsible, adaptive, and outgoing. Flexible hours, competitive pay, and a fun work environment! Do you love to hike, mountain bike, fish, camp and kayak? Then we're for you! Organize activities for a group of 12 kids to help them find their outdoor passion and learn skills to enjoy it for life! Stay in shape while you work. Practice your favorite exercise like fishing, biking and hiking while teaching kids to appreciate the outdoors. You will share your expertise with campers by preparing equipment and supplies for the week's camp program and spend the day at the most beautiful lakes, trails and parks in Virginia! Share your love for the outdoors and apply! Our Day Camps operate mid June-September. Counselors generally work Mon-Fri, 7:30 AM - 4:30 PM with frequent weekend work opportunities as well. Positions are open in Arlington, Fairfax, Alexandria and Falls Church! We provide opportunities to manage and teach kids during our camps. We are looking for individuals who are interested in teaching elementary school children in various activities including (but not limited to) art, science, building and sports. Flexible week shifts - only full day options available *will be scheduled weekly and hours range at about 45 hours per week *must be available for the full week of camp Responsibilities and Duties: Enjoy physical fitness! (e.g. standing for long periods of time, lifting/carrying gear like kayaks, hiking/walking/biking riding over challenging uneven surfaces and working in all types of weather conditions - high heat and rain. Set a positive example to kids and parents by helping to address accidents and injuries in a calm, competent manner. Train on outdoor skills and safety and encourage younger Counselors in Training (CIT) in their training, participation and growth. Exercise your abilities to help kids develop friendships and social skills. Build and develop positive, caring and appropriate relationships with campers. Treat all campers fairly with kindness, dignity and respect. Managing a small group of kids by taking attendance and accounting for them at all times Ensure children's safety, manage children's behavior and act as a role model while participating with campers in all daily activities. Facilitate age-appropriate activities for elementary school aged children activities that give children a sense of accomplishment that comes from mastering techniques and completing projects. Use group management skills to engage all children in daily activities (i.e. signals to get attention, positive feedback, model positive attitude about projects, conflict resolution, etc.) Prepare materials needed for activities, clean up after the activities. Option to create and design activities for elementary school aged children (optional) Expectations: Arrive on time each day Manage kids safely Complete activities in a safe but fun and exciting manner Communicate directly with Site Director or Manager Attend all mandatory training and orientation Qualifications and Skills: Must be eligible to work in the United States Must be 16 years or older Experience working with children (preferred) Flexibility and willingness to adapt to different situations Works well under pressure Must have reliable transportation Training: CPR/AED/First Aid Certification, provided for those over 18 On the job training, provided Baroody Camps is an equal employment opportunity employer and is a safe and drug-free workplace.
