ORGANIZATIONAL IMPACT Yolo County Children's Alliance (YCCA) vision is to protect and empower children by strengthening families throughout Yolo County. We recognize that better futures for our children start by building thriving environments to live, learn, and grow. YCCA ensures everyone in Yolo County has access to the resources they need to build meaningful ties to their communities and each other. To accomplish this, YCCA has expanded on our foundational role as the designated Child Abuse Prevention Council (CAPC) of Yolo County. Today, we serve as an inter-agency coordinator, building networks of support throughout Yolo County to deliver programs funded by numerous community and government grants, as well as individual donations. Our work focuses on three family-strengthening pillars: Family Support, Parent Education, and Community Collaboration. ROLE IMPACT Your impact as the Youth Employment Specialist supports YCCA in meeting the needs of the communities we serve by helping In-School (IS) and Out of School (OS) youth access employment, education, training, and support services to succeed in the labor market and to match employers with the skilled workers they need. You will provide a rich array of age-appropriate services that target youth ages 14-24 who face multiple barriers to successful education and employment. A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A YOUTH EMPLOYMENT SPECIALIST You will work with the Workforce Development team leadership to create a friendly and accessible environment for participating program youth to learn and grow to meet the demands of the 21st century workplace. Daily duties may include: Actively recruit youth for program participation and promote the program to youth, community partners and the broader Yolo community in general Help determine eligibility for program participants either assisting them to enroll in YCCA workforce development program or connecting them to other community resources Provide tools and support for youth to assess their skills and abilities. Work together to develop a case plan of training and career support for each participant Develop and maintain relationships with partners who work with and know of youth who would benefit from YCCA's workforce development program Support program participants to be successful at their work experience site including job descriptions, established work schedules, work attire, transportation, etc. as well as ensure participants meet education and/or employment goals. Schedule regular weekly contact/conversation with active program participants and monthly contact with follow-up participants to actively problem solve worksite or educational concerns that may be hindering their ability to succeed Support and train participants in writing/completing resumes, reference pages and job applications. Provide regular support on job site performance, interview techniques, in-depth job search skills and techniques Perform outreach to non-profit and for-profit businesses throughout Yolo County to develop work experience opportunities for program participants Connect program participants to needed resources and support them in using them. Resources include but are not limited to tutoring, health insurance, counseling, childcare, food, housing, financial aid, skill specific training, mentors, leadership development opportunities, etc. Support program participant students with post-secondary education options like campus tours, orientations, academic counseling appointments, financial aid, scholarships. Connect with on campus resources including EOPS, TRIO, etc. Maintain case files for all program participants including case notes, contact dates, activity logs, work experience forms and documents Establish and maintain professional working relationships with program partners, participants, YCCA staff and other YCCA program partners Complete all required forms and other program paperwork as required. Track and collect data on day-to-day work. Participate in reporting process including providing pertinent input and access to data as needed. Assist with and participate in YCCA organizational events such as the Family Fun Barn at the County Fair, Child Abuse Prevention month activities, Community Giveaway Day, Family Resource Center activities etc. Perform other duties as required to meet program objectives CHARACTERISTICS & SKILLS FOR A CANDIDATE TO SUCCEED IN THE ROLE Core Characteristics Collaboration : someone who is flexible and open to different ideas, perspectives, and experiences and understand the power of working together as a team Integrity : someone who takes responsibility for their actions, is able to set clear expectations of what they can bring to the table and has respect for those they work with Compassion : someone who is an active listener and shows empathy for the diverse communities we serve Inclusion & Equity : someone who is self-aware and is motivated to reduce barriers for communities whose voices are often silenced and Development : someone who is curious and open to feedback to ensure not only personal growth but overall team success Must Have Skills MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and ability to work effectively in a secure database Strong data management and reporting skills for quality assurance and for presenting data in reports, memos, charts, graphs, and other appropriate forms Remain knowledgeable of developments in the field of program support, administration, and data management Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to relate to individuals who may not share basic commonality, including value systems and behavior norms Ability to use good judgment and to handle confidential and sensitive issues with tact and diplomacy Experience in working with culturally diverse communities and families, with the ability to be culturally sensitive and appropriate Must possess a valid California Driver's license, reliable transportation and auto insurance Knowledgeable about Yolo County, its community organizations, government agencies, and businesses Nice to Have Skills Knowledge of child welfare system, educational system, and issues that affect youth Previous work with youth or workforce training program Familiarity with Yolo County and support services is a plus Essential Physical Requirements Candidates must be able to perform tasks which involve the ability to lift up to 20 lbs in sedentary to light work daily. Experience & Educational Background Candidates must have at least 2 years' experience in workforce development or health and human resource service field or have an Associate degree or above in Health and Human Services. REQUIRED FOR EMPLOYMENT Vaccinations Candidates will be required to show proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment.
