Environmental Specialist 3 or 4 Location: Stillwater Mine POSITION SUMMARY: Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: The implementation of the Company's environmental programs in order to maintain and document compliance with all applicable environmental laws, rules, and permit stipulations. The position involves performing complex environmental oversight with considerable independent judgment and decision-making. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Assists Environmental Manager with the review of compliance, data trends, & reporting. Assists in the development and communication of improvement/recovery plans. Develops documents required for environmental permitting and to maintain environmental compliance. Provides input and assists the Environmental Manager & Operations personnel in the planning and response to environmental issues and concerns. Assists with planning, schedules, and monitoring environmental capital projects. Helps ensure that resources are available for the timely completion of projects. Ensures compliance with the required environmental deliverables through inspections, physical audits, and timely correction of identified deficiencies. Assists with the maintenance of the environmental management system. Coaches and assists in the development of Environmental staff. QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: BS, MS, or Technical Degree in environmental, biological, or earth sciences and 7 years of environmental and management experience within the mining industry or related industry. Alternatively, 12 years of equivalent environmental management experience. Working knowledge of Federal and State regulations and permit requirements. Strong leadership qualities: character, teamwork, communication, business sense, and vision. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Proficient in computer skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and database applications. Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work well within a team environment. Strong analytical ability, problem-solving skills, & work ethic QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE PREFERRED: 5 to 10 years of environmental experience at an operational mine.
