Navajo Language Tutor Tsaile Campus Duty Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8am-8pm (Flexible) but no more than 20 hours a week. Summary/Objective of Position: The Navajo Language Tutor must be knowledgeable with the Navajo Langauge in both written and spoke formats. The tutor will be responsible for tutoring students in the Navajo Language courses, i.e. NAV 101, 102, 201, 202 and 211 with written and presentation formats. The tutor will assist with conducting workshops for each subjects beginning with NAV 102, etc. The tutor will compile and develop a resource to share with students who are taking the Navajo Language courses. Highly encourage Tutor have completed both NIS 111 and NIS 221 courses to assist with NIS tutoring as well. Recommend Tutor will continue to work with the Navajo Studies program for professional development with Navajo Language courses. TUTORING AND COACHING • Assist students individually and/or in small group setting with grammar,pronunciation,composition and questions in the Navajo Language. • Use guided questions to assist students to think critically, further help students understand their Navajo speaking and writing. • Assist students in understanding the basic subject content and apply knowledge of the Navajo Language and Culture history. • Help students understand and explain their assignments, and assist with online course platforms such as Blackboard, Zoom, etc. • Compile and develop Navajo Language resources / share w/ students to help guide their Navajo Language and Culture learning. STUDENT SUPPORT • Be knowledgeable of Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) when working with student information using EX/JI, etc. • Participate and lead workshops on elements of Navajo Language and Culture via in-person and/or online using Zoom, etc. • Become familiar with campus resources; compile research-based resources to share w/ students. • Provide a supported learning environment for all students from multicultural and diverse backgrounds including students with disabilities, • Assist in the day-to-day general operations of the Learning Center CAMPUS NETWORK • Collaborate with faculty and support staff to identify needs for interventions, i.e.. tutoring to ensure students' academic success with Navajo Language and Culture assignments. • Work with faculty and Learning Center staff to improve delivery of tutoring needs. • Promote the Learning Center's tutoring program at college sponsored activities. • Collaborate and coordinate workshops with Student Affairs program to ensure academic success. DATA AND MONTHLY REPORTING • Maintain a caseload of students seeking tutoring with Navajo Language and Culture classes. • Provide feedback lo referring sources re: attendance and progress with Navajo Language and Culture courses. • Complete and submit Monthly Tutoring Logs in a timely manner, • Complete and submit Monthly Reports in a timely manner. Qualifications Education and Experience: The formal education needed and the amount of experience required to enable an employee toperform the duties and fulfill the responsibilities of the job. Note: If you are waiving the education requirement for the positionindicated an "or equivalent experience" provision. Equivalent experience (assuming no college degree) for a Masters' degree is anadditional 7 years, an additional 5 years for a Bachelors' degree, and an additional 3 years of experience for an Associate's Degree.Faculty job positions must have the required education and experience. Minimum: Two or more semesters of Navajo Language and Navajo Culture with emphasis on reading and writing Navajo. Full-time or part-time enrolled Diné College students during current semester; 40 or more credit hours earned with a 3.00 cumulative GPA Preferred: Completed higher level courses of Navajo Language and Navajo Culture with emphasis on reading and writing the Navajo Language. Full-time or part-time enrolled Diné College students during current semester; 60 or more credit hours earned with a 3.00 cumulative GPA Knowledge: The subjects, topics, and items of information that an employee should know at the time the individual is hired or moved into a job. Knowledge represents bodies of information that are applied directly to the performance of work functions. -Proficient in course subjects of NAV and NIS courses.-Knowledge of Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) of 1974, which ensures students' identification and records are protected.-Familiarity with general office equipment, such as copier, fax, and scanner.-Knowledge of how to plan a workshop with activities.-Knowledge of PC/ Apple Computer and office equipment. Skills: Technical or manual proficiencies which are usually learned or acquired through training. Skills should be measurable and observable. -Possess strong oral and written communication skills.-Familiarity with Microsoft Office suites and instructional software.-Must be responsible, reliable, and punctual to deliver quality tutorial services with a positive attitude.-Respect confidentiality at all times.-Apply Customer Service skills. Abilities: The present demonstrable capacity to apply several knowledge and skills simultaneously in order to complete a task or perform an observable behavior. Abilities may also relate to personal and social attributes which tend to be innate or acquired without formal instructions. Abilities are enduring talents that can help a person do a job. -Demonstrate the college's value of T'áá ho ajit'eego, Ahil na'anish, ii idli, and il eehozin.-Ability to abide by the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) of 1974, which ensures students' identification and records are protected.-Ability to Speak, Read, Write and understand Navajo language fluently also explain difficult Navajo Language concepts simply and effectively.-Ability to plan a workshop with activities throughout semester.-Ability to performing duties and responsibilities.-Collection of data and formulate reports. Physical Requirements, Work Environment & Travel: List any physical demands and/or working environments to fulfill the duties and responsibilities of the job, including travel requirements, if applicable. -Be able to lift 20 lbs boxes; Works primarily, although not exclusively, in a climate controlled environment. This position requires average agility and good physical condition. Must be able to work flexible hours in evening and weekends during semester if needed. Other Requirement(s): List any other requirements needed to fulfill the essential functions of the job e.g. driver's license, ability to speak Navajo, certifications, etc.
