Harrison Steel's Environmental and Safety Technician performs a wide variety of administrative tasks while assisting the Senior Environmental Engineer and Safety Manager in carrying out the policies, goals and objectives of the company and complying with regulations set forth by the various permits and regulations. In addition to environmental, this position also assists in a variety of safety initiatives and programs designed to reduce hazards and increase employee safety. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: Monitors control equipment's daily and maintains logs of the data collected as required by the permits. Responsible for sampling waste streams. Other sampling duties may be assigned. Responsible for recording water flow at outfall and submitting monthly Discharge Monitoring Report (DMR) and Monthly Monitoring Report (MMR) to Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM). Other reports may be assigned. Responsible for writing Safety work orders and work orders for control equipment on log sheet after daily inspection and report to supervisor on the requirements. Serves as member of the Safety Committee and participates in scheduled Safety Audits. Conducts accident investigations as requested by supervisor. Observes employees and evaluates job activities to determine adherence to, and use of, prescribed safety equipment (such as PPE). Qualifications: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or at least one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals; write routine reports and correspondence; communicate effectively both verbally and in writing to a wide and diverse audience. Demonstrate proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel to record data and generate reports and navigate through company operating system to obtain data and records for performing the duties. Active Driver's License Certificates and Licenses (can be gained on-the-job): Fork truck license Man lift training Landfill Certification Visible emission Certification Work Environment: The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outdoor weather conditions and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
