Position Summary- The Labor & Delivery RN is responsible for direct care of patients in the antepartum, labor and delivery, postpartum, and nursery settings. The RN provides assessment and planning for individualized patient care. The RN will use assessment skills to coordinate multidisciplinary care and teamwork to provide safe and quality care, meet established practice guidelines, follow unit specific policies, and regulatory standards. Must possess effective decision making, assessment, and critical thinking skills. Responsible for the direction and supervision of personnel as assigned. Must be able to communicate with physicians with regard to patients' clinical condition including fetal monitoring, vital sign monitoring, and diagnostic studies. Respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition and status. Must be able to perform general nursing duties. May rotate to various nursing units as the need arises. Must be able to adapt to the duties required in each setting. Will have frequent changes in work load due to the fluctuation of patient census or acuity. Will participate in performance improvement activities. BCMC Policy states that cell phone use is prohibited except on breaks, at lunch, or during off-duty hours. This is a SAFETY SENSITIVE position. UTILIZE RESEARCH FINDINGS AND EVIDENCE BASED PRACTICE 8. MAINTAIN UNIT REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS (must obtain certifications within 6 months of hire) 9. MUST MEET STANDARDS ON ALL UNIT-SPECIFIC ANNUAL SKILL CHECK-OFFS 10. COMPLETE ANNUAL TRAININGS AND ATTEND MANDATORY MEETINGS AS REQUIRED 11. FLOAT TO OTHER UNITS, AS ASSIGNED 12. ASSUME THE ROLE, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF CHARGE NURSE AS ASSIGNED POSITION REQUIREMENTS Physical Requirements This position may require physical activities such as balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, grasping, kneeling, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, standing, stooping, and use of fingers and repetitive movements. An individual in this position may be required to carry or lift weight of up to 50 lbs. Will be required to assist with repositioning of immobile patients. Heavy lifting may be required. The sensory and communicative activities required for this position include feeling, hearing, seeing, smelling, and speaking. Individuals in this position could possibly be exposed to inside/outside environmental conditions, blood borne pathogens and body fluids, chemical hazards, respiratory hazards and radiological hazards. Must possess the ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner. Safety Must be attentive at all times to their own personal safety, as well as the safety of patients, their families, visitors and employees of BCMC. Hazardous and/or potentially hazardous conditions are to be immediately reported to a member of management. Qualifications and Education Requirements Education/Experience Valid unencumbered nursing license in Arkansas - Registered Nurse Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing Must have current CPR certification and ACLS Other required certifications (must be obtained by 6 mo. after date of hire) S.T.A.B.L.E. course Basic and Intermediate Fetal Monitor course Neonatal Resuscitation course Computer skills Must be able to navigate effectively within the CPSI and OB TraceVue charting systems Will be required to provide documentation in both systems Must be able to use Microsoft Office software Skills Must possess good communication skills. Must possess basic nursing skills. Must be able to able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in patient condition or patient status.
