Opportunity: The Lead Plumber is responsible to carry out or coordinate a variety of plumbing, mechanical, and maintenance duties in a manner that adds quality and value to the existing facilities or services, and provides 24-hour support, as needed. Duties: Maintain and service campus plumbing, kitchen equipment, water and sewage pumps, systems above and below ground, as well as facility gas pipelines. Perform work generated by all emergencies, work requests, and special projects in a timely manner, providing necessary follow up, and ensuring all data is recorded for the completion of each work request. Knowledgeable and capable of carrying out preventive maintenance (PM) tasks on plumbing systems and equipment as well as recording completed PM work and implementing new PM schedules in the PM system. Maintain and support M&O documentation, policies, and procedures such as lock-out/tag-out, equipment inspections, preventive maintenance, testing , , filing related records and documents as directed to ensure the systems integrity. Provide direction for the work study labor in support of M&O activities as well as training and instructing them in safe and responsible work practices. Provide oversight over plumbing contractors to ensure safe work procedures as established by the college and OSHA minimum standards as well as managing their behavior and work product. Maintain and repair all campus plumbing to include domestic water as well as waste water above and below grade throughout the campus. Be able to perform plumbing related duties such as soldering, brazing, cut/thread pipe, etc. Responsible for assisting in the task and projects of other M&O personnel as directed, and in a team spirit. Be on-call for campus operations and emergencies, work holidays, breaks, and summers as requested, carrying a cell phone to provide 24 hour support for M&O and campus operations as requested. Fulfill other duties as assigned by the M&O Supervisor and or the Director of Facilities Management. Requirements: Possesses a valid plumbing license recognized by a local jurisdiction. Must be able to deal with confidential matters; organize; prioritize; show initiative; exercise good judgment; and act as a proactive problem-solver. Proficiency in office computer skills and web-based applications (gmail, etc.); and ability to learn Covenant-specific programs for maintenance reporting and time-keeping. Able to relate to others in a cooperative and mature Christian manner with satisfactory oral and written communication skills. Represent the entire department with a neat appearance and professionalism. Able to safely work in potentially hazardous situations/environments involving chemicals, solvents, vapors, heights, ladders, platforms, confined crawl spaces; distinguish colors; have sufficient hearing to work safely and cooperatively; and carry/lift a minimum of 30 pounds. Respond to after-hours call-in for campus emergencies, or to assist M&O shops as directed by the M&O Supervisor. Must consistently be able to perform the duties of the job to include but not limited to; sitting, walking, lifting, pushing, pulling, carrying, stooping, kneeling, crouching. Additional Eligibility Requirements: An acceptance of and commitment to Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. An understanding of the mission and purpose of Covenant College. Must be able to assent to Covenant College's Staff Commitments Physical Work Environment: This role is expected to be performed on campus unless otherwise directed or arranged for and operates primarily around the campus grounds, in campus facilities and workshops as well as occasionally in a professional office environment, using standard office and shop equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, fax machines and other job-related tools and technology. Primarily, the role requires substantial periods of time standing and/or walking as well as working in tight spaces. Classified as medium, frequent lifting, moving or lowering an object from one level to another (includes upward pulling) up to and occasionally over 25 lbs. Expressing or exchanging ideas and conversation by means of the spoken word; needs to be fluent and conversant using the English language. Generally, days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm. Infrequent extra hours, evening and weekend work may be required as job duties and urgent/emergency response demands. Travel is not required for this position.
