Job Description: Directs and coordinates activities of workers engaged in the repair, maintenance, and installation of production equipment and facilities maintenance by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate personnel. Responsibility and Duties: Reviews job orders to determine work priorities Schedules repair, maintenance, and installation of machines, tools, and equipment to ensure continuous production operations Coordinates activities and training of maintenance personnel Directs maintenance activities to provide continuous supply of heat, steam, electric power, gas, or air required for operations Displays knowledge of plant operational systems including refrigeration, electrical, air and piping, PLC's, filling and packaging equipment, and support equipment Develops and conducts a Preventive Maintenance program in conjunction with production scheduling and maintenance staff Reviews production, quality control, and maintenance reports and statistics to plan and modify maintenance activities Inspects operating machines and equipment for conformance with operational standards. Plans, develops, and implements new methods and procedures designed to improve operations, minimize operating costs, and effect greater utilization of labor and materials. Reviews new product plans and discusses equipment needs and modifications with design engineers. Requisitions tools, equipment, and supplies required for operations. Directs training and indoctrination of workers to improve work performance and acquaint workers with company policies and procedures. Confers with management, engineering, and quality control personnel to resolve maintenance problems and recommend measures to improve operations and conditions of machines and equipment. Prepares department budget and monitors expenditure of funds in budget. Completes projects on time and budget Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner and develops alternative solutions. Displays willingness to make decisions and exhibits sound and accurate judgment Makes timely decisions and communicates changes effectively Includes appropriate people in decision-making process and supports and explains reasoning for decisions Manages competing demands and changes approach or method to best fit the situation. Able to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events and reacts well under pressure. Observes safety and security procedures and reports potentially unsafe conditions. Supervisory Responsibilities: Directly supervises hourly employees in the Maintenance Department. Carries out management/supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems. Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university in a mechanical engineering or related field and three to five years related experience and/or training in a management position; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Boiler Certification (Stationary Engineer- Level 1 or 2) Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of and be proficient in the use of Internet software; Inventory software; Project Management software; Maintenance Software (Maintenance Connection), Spreadsheet software (Excel), Word Processing software (Word) and Email Software (Office 365). Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Work Environment: While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, however the employee may be required to enter production areas where the noise level is usually loud and hearing protection is required.
