Chief Finance & Operations OfficerUWC-USA seeks to appoint a Chief Finance & Operations Officer. This is a full-time, exempt, 12-month position reporting directly to the President. In consultation with the president and strategic leadership team, the CFOO oversees and maintains efficient and effective financial and operating systems and processes as well as exemplary service levels and accountability across the school's core business and operations functions. The CFOO continuously seeks to improve resource utilization and is responsible for the business office, human resources, information technology, property management, legal affairs, insurance, plant and facilities maintenance and transportation, campus security, dining services, the campus store, and auxiliary revenue sources. The CFOO is a member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), coordinating to ensure the effective and safe operation of UWC USA. The CFOO also works closely with the finance, investment, and audit committees of the board.The ideal applicant will have prior experience working in academe, and with international and or non-profit organization. Experience with the UWC movement is a plus. Specific Responsibilities: Property Management and Interface for Legal Matters - Directs and manages the assets of the college, including overseeing both its physical plant and financial assets. Oversees the management of new construction, renovation, and non-routine maintenance. Serves as the main contact for the college on legal matters regarding the operations or financial responsibilities of the college. Oversees Risk Management and property Insurance(s). Maintains oversight of legal issues and public safety. Serves as lead of the Risk Management Committee. Serves as the main contact for the schools insurance companies. Oversees the implementing of the college's sustainability initiatives. Leads and supports the sustainability committee and their efforts. Financial Management - Provides leadership and oversight of the work of the business office and its function to ensure efficient and effective management of the finance function, accuracy and reliability of financial information. Leads the process of budgeting and provides relevant information to operating divisions and the president. Develops and maintains systems of internal controls to safeguard financial assets of the college. Provides leadership in continuing to improve effective management accounting systems and processes. Investment Management - Oversees the management of UWC USA assets and endowments, including tracking investment performance and providing financial statement analysis to the Board. Audit, Compliance and Internal Controls - Oversees bond indebtedness and banking and auditing relationships. Produces financial, expense and budgeting reports. Ensures audits and statutory compliance are carried out on time, in line with applicable laws and UWC USA regulations and compliance requirements. Arranges for the preparation of the audited financial reports by external auditors; and reports to the President, Senior Leadership Team and the Board. Leadership - Serves as a member of the Senior Leadership team and contributes to the team's efforts to promote an organizational culture of collaboration, open and frequent communication, adaptation, alignment with a common vision, and acknowledgement of success in achieving specific project and broader organizational objectives. Human Resource Management - Oversees human resource activities including but not limited to recruitment, selection and hiring, orientation, payroll and benefits, staff support and engagement, and support for training and development, as well as employee benefits such as health, life, dental, FSA, and workers compensation. Security - Oversees the security division to ensure the safety and welfare of campus, employees, students, and visitors. Management of Information Technology - Oversees, and ensures effective use of Information Technology systems to support organizational processes, including document management, client relationship management, event support, and supporting mainframe computing, other administrative computing, and faculty and teaching equipment and technology. Establishes and maintains budget and cost management for IT. Management of Food Services - Oversees food services contract and works closely with the food services manager to ensure quality service to the UWC USA community while maintaining the approved budget. Strategic Operations - Provides support to the Board, President, Senior Leadership Team, and the Strategic Planning Committee in the area of forward working planning, strategic financial management, budgetary analysis and reporting. Serves as a staff officer to the Board's Business and Finance Committee and Investment Committee. Serves on several college committees, such as Housing, Information Technology, Buildings and Grounds, Long Range Land Use Planning, and others as assigned. Has other duties as required and as assigned by the president. Skills: Strong operations leadership and management skills Strong accounting, audit, financial management and financial analysis skills Ability to provide leadership and oversight to multiple departments Highly numerate with an ability to create, manage, interpret, and present financial analysis, forecasting and resource management Excellent organizational skills Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) Strong managerial and leadership skills with ability to manage and develop high-performing teams Ability to prioritize workload and function effectively within and outside the office in a cross-cultural, interdisciplinary environment Ability to work under pressure to complete multiple tasks, meet demands and deadlines with a positive, constructive attitude Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters and respond as required Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel; familiarity with accounting software, Google Suite Understanding of legal language in all types of business contracts and risk assessment Ability to manage a heavy workload and perform effectively managing numerous significant responsibilities and challenges with competing priorities. Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of financial, accounting, cash flow, donor, grant budgeting and investment management Strong working knowledge of audit and compliance Knowledge of US accounting standards and consolidated financial reporting Understanding of legal language in all types of contracts and risk assessment An understanding of the not-for-profit sector, including donor relations and management Background in strategy and business planning with proven ability to develop and manage business plans, processes and controls to enhance efficiencies and mitigate risk Demonstrate proven ability in organizational development, information technology, business transformation, project management, asset and property management Knowledge of US accounting standards, US government grant processes, procedures, auditing requirements, and consolidated financial reporting Background in and working knowledge of computerized management information systems Adept with information communications technology (ICT) commonly used in office applications, with advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office products Working Conditions: Office environment primarily, but with frequent visits to construction and non- routine maintenance sites. Some evening and weekend work. Some overnight travel. Qualifications: Undergraduate degree in business, finance, or a related field. International and/or non-profit experience preferred. Outstanding written and oral communication skills. Collaborative leadership style that includes strong team-building skills. Commitment to the mission of the school and the UWC movement. The following qualifications are desirable: Graduate degree in a related field (such as an MBA), or comparable experience of progressively evolving management and team leadership in an academic setting. Experience working in academe. Experience in planning and overseeing capital projects. This position is an exempt, full-time position that will be an initial two (2) year agreement. Compensation is commensurate with experience; and UWC-USA offers a competitive benefits package.UWC-USA is an international boarding school. It enrolls 240 students in grades 11 and 12.
