General Summary of the Position: This position is designed for final semester college students, recent college graduates, or individuals with two (2) or fewer years of project management experience in the Civil Engineering field. The Assistant Project Manager will assist in the field and office with technical activities to support the overall management of project execution with emphasis on coordination of construction work, procurement, and oversight of subcontractors/suppliers, and the identification and resolution of design (progress) drawing conflicts to ensure construction work complies with all contract requirements and engineering standards. Essential Functions: (Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. Support planning, technical issues, RFI’s, submittals, material approvals. Resolve moderate to complex engineering problems and perform quantity take-offs Field verifies to ensure construction is completed in accordance with plans, specifications, and contract. Assist in the assembly of reports, proposals, bids, estimates, schedules. Ensure as-built documents are updated as required by contract. Approves timesheets and records. Provides daily documentation and pictures of work performed and conversations daily. Performs work tasks by receiving direction and then working independently with an interest in quickly learning and applying new skills and abilities. Perform other such assignments as directed by the supervisor. Acts in a professional manner at all times to maintain a positive work environment in accordance with the company’s harassment policy and workplace violence procedures. Complete estimates and draft proposals for bids. Request proposals from subcontractors as required. Prepare and distribute appropriate paperwork internally and externally for the job when the contract is awarded. Communicate with onsite subcontractors, general contractors, and/or owners. Order and schedule equipment and material(s) deliveries in coordination with the field superintendent. Manage, supervise, and coordinate onsite work crews through the field superintendent. Ensure field superintendent monitors installation and completion of work on time and budget. Creates invoices to customers for payment submittals. Ensures subcontractors are paid appropriately and monitors work performance. Create traffic control plans necessary for the job. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of standards, procedures, methods, and techniques applicable to construction projects including construction equipment, materials, and utility systems. Knowledge of construction standards, practices, and techniques, building materials, and installation and maintenance of utilities sufficient to develop effective controls of work and equipment hazards resulting from new construction or modification of current facilities. Excellent organizational management skills. Skill in interpreting engineering drawings and specifications. Strong written and spoken communication skills. Good computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment. Ability to keep clear and accurate records and reports. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups and/or employees. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Required Education, Training, and Experience: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering. Civil Engineering majors in the final semester of college will be considered. 3.0 GPA or greater is preferred Prior construction-related work experience is preferred Work Environment: The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. On occasion it may be necessary to lift and carry or manipulate items of up to 50 lbs., walk over uneven or unpaved ground to reach a worksite in construction zones. This position may be required to perform a variety of construction tasks in all areas and aspects of the construction project. When your position requires you to enter the field it is mandatory that you wear approved Personal Protective Equipment. This position may require working schedules which may include shift work, late hours, holiday, and/or weekend shifts. This position may also require travel, as necessary. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work in an office environment, however, he/she may be occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The work may involve exposure to hazards, unpleasantness, and discomforts such as moving machine parts, shielded radiation sources, irritant chemicals, acid fumes, physical stresses, high noise levels, adverse weather conditions, and elevated temperatures from steam lines. Protective equipment and clothing may be needed, including hardhat, metatarsal shoes, earmuffs or plugs, goggles, respirators, and gloves. Powered by JazzHR
