A large food manufacturer in Chicago, IL is seeking an Engineering Manager responsible for leading and managing the maintenance and engineering team in a fully automated food manufacturing facility. This role oversees the design, implementation, and maintenance of all automated systems and equipment, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and compliance with industry standards. The Engineering Manager will drive continuous improvement initiatives, manage capital projects, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to support production goals.Key Responsibilities: Oversee the operation and maintenance of automated systems, robotics, and control systems to ensure high efficiency and minimal downtime.Implement and monitor control strategies to optimize process performance and product quality.Collaborate with IT and operations teams to integrate new technologies and systems.Lead and manage capital projects from conception to completion, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and meet all specifications and standards.Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external contractors to ensure successful project execution. Develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance programs for automated systems and equipment.Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues related to automation and control systems.Continuously evaluate and improve maintenance practices to enhance equipment reliability and lifespan. Identify opportunities for process optimization and efficiency improvements within automated systems.Implement lean manufacturing principles and best practices to enhance operational performance.Utilize data and analytics to drive continuous improvement initiatives and make informed decisions. Ensure all engineering activities comply with safety, health, and environmental regulations.Promote a strong safety culture within the engineering team and the broader plant.Conduct regular safety audits and implement corrective actions as needed. Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineers and maintenance technicians specializing in automation.Foster a collaborative and high-performance work environment.Provide training and development opportunities to enhance team skills and knowledge in automation technologies. Provide technical expertise and support to production, quality, and other departments.Develop and maintain technical documentation, including equipment manuals, SOPs, and maintenance records.Stay current with industry trends and advancements in automation technology. Develop and manage the engineering department budget.Monitor expenditures and identify cost-saving opportunities.Ensure efficient use of resources while maintaining high standards of quality and safety.Contribute to the development and execution of the plant's strategic plan.Align engineering initiatives with overall business goals and objectives.Participate in long-term planning for facility upgrades and expansions.Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Automation, or related field). A Master's degree is a plus.Minimum of 7-10 years of engineering experience in an automated food manufacturing or similar environment, with at least 3-5 years in a managerial role.Strong knowledge of automation systems, robotics, PLCs, SCADA, and control systems.Proven experience in project management and leading capital projects.Excellent leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities.Proficiency in CAD software, ERP systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
