The Connecticut Community for Addiction Recovery (CCAR) defines a peer recovery coach as someone who, "promotes recovery and removes barriers and obstacles to recovery, serving as a personal guide and mentor for people seeking or already in recovery from an addiction to alcohol and or other drugs."Recovery United Community Center peer recovery coaches (PRC) are trained to the highest standard of evidenced based practices in the peer recovery field. Peer recovery coaches are in long-term recovery and working towards or have attained a certification in peer recovery services. Peers have lived experience that allows them to effectively navigate treatment systems and pathways to achieve sustained recovery. Individuals who have identified that their substance use causes problems in any area of life can work with a peer to find a pathway of recovery that works for them based on their personal definition of recovery. What are the core job responsibilities as a Peer Recovery Coach at CARE? Practice one on one, person-centered and individualized recovery through the support of multiple pathways. Connect a person to a larger recovery community/network. Responsible for completing all required documentation and collecting of signed forms/paperwork within an electronic health record. Responsible for a flexible schedule that meets the needs of a caseload. Maintaining recovery coach, trauma-informed care and other required education status during employment. Committed to participating in community events to represent recovery, advocate and build strong connections to the community at large. What does CARE provide you? Recovery United Community Center offers certification opportunities for peer recovery coaches and ongoing continuing education events throughout the year. Paid on the job training. Starting pay is $17.00 per hour Our full-time work week is 37.5 hours because work/life balance is our value! 5.7 hours of paid time off is earned each pay period. Practicing self-care by taking time off is encouraged. Individuals with past criminal records may be eligible for employment. Participating in recovery-oriented community events. Training to be a Certified Peer Recovery Mentor (CPRM). Training to be certified by Connecticut Community for Addiction Recovery (CCAR) Recovery Coach Academy. What do we need from you? High school diploma or graduate equivalent degree required. Must be in long term recovery from a substance use disorder. Responsible for a flexible schedule that meets the needs of a caseload. Demonstrates in practice there are multiple pathways to recovery. Possess a valid motor vehicle operator license and have reliable transportation. Completion of background check and drug screening. Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment. Must possess knowledge and understanding of Recovery Oriented System of Care and Trauma Informed Services, and Motivational Interviewing. Familiarity with local services and resources within the recovery community is preferred. Preferred one year of peer coaching or related experience.
