ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT : This position manages the work, practices and procedures of the Diesel Shop and Wheelhouse. The manager will be responsible for establishing priorities, work standards, develop plans as well as performance management of staff. MAJOR DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES : Work with Senior Management to ensure successful operations of department. Provide coverage and support in the absence of the Senior Manager of Operations, including oversight of all employees on the shop floor. Manage internal and external locomotive overhauls including overseeing work processes. Develop methods and techniques for productivity improvements and ensure work conforms to specifications. Monitor production schedules to ensure work is completed in accordance with customer contract obligations. Oversee work processes to ensure budgets are adhered to and take action to correct/adjust as necessary. Create operational and capital budget submissions. Forecast and plan for required equipment for shop, including sourcing with vendors. Assist with the preparation of tender submittals and the implementation of new contracts.
