2024-25 Middle School Math & Science Teacher Position Date of Posting: April 25, 2024Deadline: May 17, 2024 or until filledPosition Title: Middle School Math and Science Teacher1.0 FTE Opening for Fall 2024Education: BA in Secondary/Middle School Education from an accredited college oruniversity expectedCertification:PREFERRED : Current Michigan teaching certificate with endorsements that allow teaching bothMiddle School Math and Science.ACCEPTED: Current Michigan teaching certificate with endorsements that allow for teachingMiddle School Math while working toward an endorsement that allows for teaching MiddleSchool Science.Work Experience: Experience teaching Middle School Math and/or Science preferredJob Description:The teacher will have the primary responsibility for planning, programming, and teachingMiddle School Mathematic and Science. The teacher possesses and will utilize neededsubject/content area knowledge and pedagogy to guide and assist students in mastering theknowledge and skills consistent with the State of Michigan Middle School Math and ScienceStandards. The teacher will be responsible for monitoring, evaluating and reporting theprogress for all students in their classes. The teacher will collaborate with other staff tosupport all students, and provide accommodations and manage instructional challengesconstructively. They will be responsible for establishing a positive and supportive classroomenvironment, demonstrate effective professional skills, and will work with other teachersand staff as a contributing team member in a cooperative and positive adult workenvironment.Desired Skills:● Possess a comprehensive knowledge of the Michigan MS Math and Science standards● Ability to effectively impart to students the necessary knowledge and skills in Math andScience● Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with all stakeholders: students, parentsand co-workers● Strong communication, listening and organizational skills● Ability to make personal connections with students, and maintain the philosophy that allchildren can learn at high levels when provided with the appropriate instruction● Ability to utilize appropriate instructional technology into lessons● Ability to establish a positive learning environment● Ability to adapt instruction to meet the need of all students● Receptive to feedback and continuously in pursuit of improving classroom effectivenessand achievement of student outcomesEssential Job Functions● Instruct MS students in developing knowledge and skills of MS math and science inaccordance with the course of study adopted by the BCCS Board of Education● Encourage students to develop an appreciation of mathematics and science● Develop clear and concise lesson plans and organize class time● Use a variety of instructional techniques appropriate for the age and skill level ofstudents● Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior to create an effective safe, caringand orderly classroom environment● Conduct ongoing assessments to monitor student performance● Provide reteaching and/or interventions when appropriate● Evaluate and track student progress and program effectiveness● Communicate effectively with parents, staff, parent organizations, and outsideagencies● Conduct parent-teacher conferences● Maintain all student academic records associated with Math and Science requiredstudent management activities● Complete assigned responsibilities within agreed upon or established timelines● Adhere to and support BCCS’s policies and procedures● Perform other duties as assigned by the principalByron Center Charter School is a K-12 charter school founded in 1996, with a student body of210, located in Byron Center, MI.
