POSITION SUMMARY The Fishing Program Manager reports to the Vice President of Youth Education and supports the organization by managing and facilitating fishing and kayaking programs through the Pittsburgh’s First Catch Center. The Fishing Program Manager will directly supervise the Fishing Program Coordinator. This position is a full-time role, supported by a grant from the PA Fish & Boat Commission and Richard King Mellon Foundation. Many of these programs are youth and family focused, so an ideal candidate would have experience and be comfortable working with groups of youth. This position requires a mix of office, field and remote work. Field work consists of 20-30% of the role November through March, 50-60% April-Sep-Oct, and 70-80% May-August. The anticipated start date for this role will be early/mid June 2024. Applications will be accepted until 8:00 AM on Monday, May 6, 2024. Interviews will be offered after this date. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Manage the Pittsburgh First Catch program, which will conduct fishing and boating experiences in under-represented communities Execute 150+ fishing and kayaking experiences at Venture Outdoors’ concessions/facilities and in pop-up locations throughout the greater Pittsburgh region throughout the 18-month period Work collaboratively with the PA Fish & Boat Commission to successfully lift and operate the Pittsburgh First Catch Program Collaborate with partner organizations to facilitate educational experiences Recruit participants to complete in the PA Fish & Boat Fishing Skills Instructor certification course and Venture Outdoors’ Outdoor Leadership Training course Manage the seasonal part-time Fishing Program Coordinator Train and lead part-time Outdoor Educators on fishing and kayaking trips Track grant program deliverables and write grant interim and final reports ; e nsure grant deliverables are being met Seek out and fundraise additional revenue (by writing grants, activity fees, etc.) to diversity funding stream for fishing and kayaking experiences Book group experiences, create service agreements, and collect payments Drive company vehicles with/without trailers Transport, store, clean, and maintain fishing and kayaking gear Be an ambassador for Venture Outdoor Other duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS Experience fishing and kayaking Experience teaching or facilitating with a group of youth and/or adults Experience managing staff members Grant and budget management experience Strong administrative and organizational skills Ability to work on diverse teams or with a diverse range of people Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work while managing multiple deadlines in a continually changing work environment Ability to work well independently and be a part of a team Ability to take initiative and produce results Dedicated and committed to the mission of Venture Outdoors REQUIREMENTS Current CPR and First Aid certifications (can acquire upon hiring) PA State Act 151 Child Abuse, PA State Act 34 Criminal Background Check and FBI Background check must be obtained and submitted prior to the first day of employment Note: a finding on the criminal background clearances is not an automatic disqualification, but rather a conversation starter Valid Pennsylvania State driver’s license and clean driving record Experience driving a pickup truck and/or 12 passenger van with or without trailers (preferred) Experience working with online reservation systems, staff scheduling software, Microsoft Office Suite, and Microsoft 365 products (preferred) Flexibility to work where necessary on the weekend, evening and holiday hours Locations include home office, Venture Outdoors office, community hubs, and various parks/rivers/lakes throughout the greater Pittsburgh region BENEFITS Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurances 15 days paid vacation annually; 15 days paid sick time annually 10 paid holidays annually These days are not prescribed by Venture Outdoors but provided to employees to use as they wish to best fit their values and beliefs 8 hours of paid volunteer time per month to be used as employees see fit All primary and general election days are paid time off Parental Leave program Paid winter shutdown between December 26-January 1 Paid pre- and post- season mandatory mental health wellness shut down Simple IRA retirement plan Free subscription to the Calm meditation & mindfulness app Paid professional development Flexible work environment Free kayaking!
