Note for Current UM EmployeesCurrent employees must apply internally via connectU : connectu.olemiss.edu Definition of Class Under the supervision of the Chair of the Communicative Sciences and Disorders Department, the incumbent facilitates communication access by providing sign language interpretation for Deaf and hard of hearing university students, faculty, staff, and/or visitors, delivered primarily in the classroom or other university setting, and in accordance with established schedules. Examples of Work Performed - Provide sign language interpreting and transliterating services as assigned for university classes, lectures, meetings, and other university sponsored events/ activities- Actively monitor students and/or other Deaf consumers while interpreting for comprehension and feedback- Collaborate with other interpreting staff to complete projects- Use independent judgment to resolve problems and ensure proper communication access- Review meeting minutes and agendas for faculty/staff department meetings- Collaborate with multiple stakeholders to ensure proper communication access- Assists with scheduling and dispatching interpreting assignments as needed- Participates in Deaf and Hard of Hearing outreach and advocacy activities- Provide ASL interpreting services in Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders and the Speech and Hearing Clinic as needed.- Performs related or similar duties as required or assigned. Essential Functions These essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following. Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the hiring department. 1. Provide sign language interpreting services2. Reviews and analyzes departmental materials to prepare for specific interpreting assignments3. Provides administrative assistance within the department Minimum Education/Experience Education: Bachelor's degree in a related field AND Experience: 1 year of experience related to the duties described above AND Certification: Must hold current certification as an interpreter, either through QA or RID, or other certification recognized by the State of Mississippi. Must be registered or eligible for registration with the Mississippi Department of Rehabilitation Services Office for Deaf and Hard of Hearing within 30 days from date of hire Substitution Statement:Related experience may be substituted for education on a basis set forth and approved by the Department of Human Resources.
