(For more information, please clickstudentaid.gov/publicservice): And more Office of Auditing and Performance Analysis:The Bureau of Auditing is responsible for audits and reviews in all industries, and may include financial, compliance, billing, surveillance, and verification. The auditors conduct examinations of utility:related financial and operating records and provide an independent verification of the supporting documentation for any statements or filings made by regulated companies. Financial audits are conducted in conjunction with utilities' requests for rate increases through rate cases or the annual cost recovery clauses to ensure ratepayers only pay for prudently incurred expenses. The Performance Analysis Section conducts utility management and operational audits and identifies areas for improvement. These audits may be limited to one company or conducted on a comparative basis between several companies and may include internal controls, process or procedure analysis, construction project management, quality assurance, service quality, and rule compliance. Description of Job Duties: The Public Utility Analyst position is with the Office of Auditing and Performance Analysis, within the Auditing section. The analyst will participate in teams, performing financial audits and reviews of regulated electric, gas, water, and wastewater utility's books and records. However, the analyst can work unaccompanied as an audit manager on select audits. The analyst prepares detailed written reports documenting audit findings and information gathered. Occasional in:state travel may be required. Good communication, writing and analytical skills are essential.
