IMMEDIATE OPENINGS AVAILABLE!!!! Public Service Maintenance Workers (B Endorsement) in the Department of Public Services perform a variety of tasks relatedto the maintenance and repair of roads, grounds, and structures. Employees will be responsible for patching broken or erodedpavement, repairing guard rails, highway markers and snow fences. They may also be required to mow or clear brush froma long road or plow snow from roadways. Public Service Maintenance workers will drive "B" endorsement vehicles to sweepdebris from paved surfaces, mow grass and weeds, remove snow and ice, and spread salt and sand. Employees will inspect,clean, and repair drainage systems, bridges, tunnels, and other structures. Employees also perform preventativemaintenance and cleaning on vehicles and equipment and install, erect or repair guardrails, roads shoulders, beams, highwaymarkers, warning signals, and highway lighting. Public Service Maintenance workers will be responsible for maintaining fieldtime records and reports and performing other duties as assigned. ELIGIBLE PERSONS At the time of application and appointment, an applicant must have:• A High School Diploma or GED AND:• A valid State of Michigan Commercial Driver's License with Type "B" and airbrake endorsement and a safe andacceptable driving record. (INDICATE MICHIGAN DRIVER'S LICENSE NUMBER ON FRONT OF APPLICATION.) SPECIAL CONDITIONS Proof of education must be submitted with application.Appointees must obtain a CDL "A and N" endorsement within the first six (6) months of their hire date. Appointees who donot obtain the "A and N" endorsements will be removed from the Public Service Maintenance Worker position pursuant tothe Department of Personnel/Human Resources and Department of Public Services procedures.As a condition of employment, appointees must:1. Have a drug screen when hired and submit to random drug screen thereafter;2. Agree to a criminal history check.Names on the resulting eligibility list will be certified only to positions in the Road Maintenance Division of the Department ofPublic Services. TYPES OF TESTS Experience and training will be worth (100%). PURPOSE To establish an eligible list from which to fill present and future vacancies. The eligible list will remain in effect for six (6)months but may be extended. This will remain in existence until exhausted or terminated by the Department ofPersonnel/Human Resources.This is a continuous examination and ranking on the eligible list will be subject to change as names are added to and removedfrom the list. GENERAL INFORMATION Pay Rate and Fringe Benefits: Appointments will usually be made at the minimum rate with annual increases whereapplicable. Payment is on a bi-weekly basis. Employees receive liberal fringe benefits, which include vacation pay, sick leavepay, health care insurance, optical, dental, long term disability, life insurance and a retirement plan. How to Apply: Applicants must complete application form (P/HR-210), which may be obtained at the office of the Departmentof Personnel/Human Resources. The application will be used for determining eligibility for admission to the examination andas a basis for rating experience and training. Investigation and Probationary Period: An investigation of character and past employment will be conducted. Appointeesmust satisfactorily complete a probationary period before the appointment will be considered permanent, in accordance withthe provisions of the collective bargaining agreements. Veteran's Preference: Honorably discharged war veterans who receive passing grades on examinations will have ten (10)points added to their final earned examination scores and those who have a service connected disability will have five (5)points added to their score, for a possible total of fifteen (15) additional points. Requests for and proof of eligibility must besubmitted at the time of the examination. Review of Examination: A request to review an examination must be made in writing within twenty (20) days after the noticeof result of the examination is mailed. An appeal concerning the rating received must be made in writing within twenty (20)days after the review. An appeal must state the basis on which it is claimed that the rating is improper.
