Summary The Nursery Infant/Toddler Paraprofessional is responsible for developing and implementing the daily lesson plans and activities for the infant/toddler classroom. This position is also responsible for creating a classroom environment that implements best practices and an anti-bias curriculum that supports the development of the whole child.The center is open from 7:30 am - 5:00 pm Monday - Friday. Plan and prepare the learning environment (both indoors and outdoors), setting up learning centers, and preparing needed materials and suppliesAssist with the arrival of children and families by greeting them, helping them remove outerwear, and selecting activities of interest to them.Record daily observations of children's behavior and activities with regard to routines and information conveyed daily to family members.Direct and conduct the assessment of the developmental stages of the children, using approved assessment tool.Schedule and conduct regular family conferences to discuss children's developmental progress, establish goals, and learning strategies.Demonstrate professional conduct, positive attitude, and supportive culture. Prioritize work flow, and uses independent judgment to support effective daily classroom management and operations. Effectively collaborate with colleagues and parents to build positive relationships within the nursery environment and the community.Supervise the activities of infants and toddlers in an educational environment that is safe, clean, well arranged, enriching, and conducive to the development of the whole child.Assist the Site Coordinator in managing the daily operations of the nursery and promotion of the Study Nursery program.Exercise initiative by assisting with general housekeeping tasks. Complete professional development training hours as required for licensing, accreditation, and Springfield Public Schools; maintain current CPR and First Aid certifications. Maintain confidentiality of all children, parents, and employees.Attend all staff meetings and other mandatory or required in-service meetings. Know and adhere to the policies of the program in regards to:o Licensing and accreditation guidelineso Communicable diseases and exclusion of sick childreno First aid and medical emergencyo Emergency procedureso Mandated reporting procedureso Nursery dress code and professionalismo Reporting personal illness when needing a sick day or requesting time offo MOve Smart guidelineso NAEYC Code of Ethical Conducto FERPA and HIPAA confidentiality guidelines within the classroom and Study NurseryExhibit exemplary attendance and punctuality.Comply with district policies and procedures.Perform other duties as assigned, including attending district functions, serving on committees and attending community events. Requirements Education and Experience Minimum of one (1) year of job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is preferred. Certificates, Licenses and Other Special Requirements Must have ability to obtain current Substitute Teaching Certificate. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: child guidance principles and practices, especially as they relate to students with learning disabilities; instructional materials and techniques used in Special Education; safe practices in classroom and other activities; correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary; reading and writing communication skills; and record keeping techniques. Skill to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to routinely upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job, including: operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications; and preparing and maintaining accurate records. Ability to read technical information and compose a variety of documents. Ability to analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Ability to work with others under a wide variety of circumstances; working with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of widely varied types and/or purposes; and utilize job-related equipment. Ability to analyze issues and create action plans. Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders. Ability to apply critical thinking/problem solving to improve work processes. Ability to adhere to safety practices; meet deadlines and schedules; work under time constraints; and communicate with diverse groups. Working Conditions and Physical Requirements Work environment is primarily inside, where the noise and temperature levels are moderate. The work is light work which requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects. Must possess the physical ability to work primarily with fingers, perceive the nature of sounds, make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes, express or exchange ideas by the spoken word, substantial movements (motions) with the hands, wrists, and/or fingers, and discern letters or numbers at a given distance. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: balancing, crouching, feeling, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, manual dexterity, mental acuity, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking. Nice To Haves Associate degree in early childhood development or early childhood education.One year of classroom experience in an early childhood or early elementary setting.
