DEFINITION / GENERAL PURPOSE: Manages the Pro Shop, golf tournaments and administrative duties as they relate to the operation of the City of Copperas Cove Golf course. SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED: Works under the general supervision of the Recreation Superintendent Provides direct supervision to one clerk/Golf shop assistant and various recreation aides as assigned. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Manages the Pro Shop by operating the point of sale system, purchasing and selling merchandise. Maintains the tee sheet and daily play, preparing work schedules for staff, providing customer service to golf patrons, preparing deposits, controlling inventory, making special orders and overseeing the overall operation of the Pro Shop. Manages tournaments by explaining the rules and scoring of golf to patrons, developing tournament contracts, delegating funds for tournament expenses and organizing and promoting tournaments. Works in conjunction with the recreation superintendent in preparing the annual budget for Golf Course operations, making recommendations for CIP and PIP, preparing various reports, making presentations to various groups, conducting annual evaluations of staff and handling customer complaints. Creates, develops and administers various forms of advertising related to golf operations and play. Performs other essential duties as required to achieve successful operation of the department. The employee must have the ability to work well with others and have a good/pleasant attitude. Regular and timely attendance is an essential job function. PERIPHERAL DUTIES: Serves as a member of various employee committees, as assigned. Other Duties as assigned. DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelors degree in golf management, business administration or a closely related field; Two (2) years experience in the management of a Golf Course to include providing golf training to patrons or equivalent combination of education and experience; PGA or PGM Golf Certification and Teaching Pro Certification preferred; Posses a valid Texas driver's license be able to obtain by date of employment. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to follow directions. Flexible schedule, may work weekends to support golf tournaments and training sessions. Be a self-starter and show initiative. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations; Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals; Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, citizens, customers, and the general public; Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume; Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry; Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions; Ability to perform full range of physical efforts and maintain standards required for duty execution; Ability to perform during adverse and stressful conditions. SELECTION GUIDELINES: Formal application, rating of education and experience; oral interview and reference check; job related tests may be required. TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED: Motorized golf vehicles, power and hand tools and equipment for vehicle and mechanical system work; tools including air tools, personal computer, digital tee sheet and POS system, calculator, phone; mobile or portable radio.
