Description:This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit charitable organization committed to strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Healthy Learning Academy Lead or Assistant Teacher shall be responsible for directing all aspects of classroom curriculum and program activities. The Teacher supervises and guides a child's development in a safe and healthy environment. Staff schedules are set at the time of employment but are subject to change by the supervisor based on the needs of the center. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Perform excellent service to all members, staff, volunteers, and guests. Build relationships by using names and initiating conversations with all members, staff, volunteers, and guests. Communicate with supervisor, staff, members, guests, and volunteers in a clear, concise and positive manner while using Listen First skills. Responsible for assuring high standards of program quality, and safety in accordance with YMCA safety and risk management policies. Act as a positive role model while implementing YMCA character development and following the four core values of Caring, Honesty, Responsibility, and Respect. Possess working knowledge of child abuse and neglect laws and proper reporting procedures. Possess working knowledge of YMCA mission, purpose, and goals. Keep continuing education requirements current. Integrate the YMCA Character Development materials into all lesson plans. Provide children with opportunities to develop language and literacy. Provide an environment which promotes smooth and orderly transition. Provide daily communication with parents and staff. Promote team building. Conduct self in a professional, responsible manner. Assist in the training and serve as a mentor to other child care staff and assistants. Encourage parent involvement in the programs. Perform other related duties as assigned by your supervisor or CEO. End of Day Journal entry on the classroom. Write and follow the lesson plan on Brightwheel. Ensure that the classroom is cleaned thoroughly and up to licenses requirements. Including but not limited to dishes, floors, windows and toys. Maintain steady attendance with no less that 1, tardy or absence a month. Hold parent teacher conferences according to program policy. Demonstrate social and emotional health while in the classroom. Work hours are normally Monday - Friday 8 am - 5 pm with a 1 hour lunch break. Uphold the STARS requirements in the classroom. Lead all classroom activities. Critical Thinking & Decision Making : Makes informed decisions based on logic, data, and sound judgment. Fiscal Management : Manages the Y's resources responsibly and sustains the Y's nonprofit business model. Functional Expertise : Executes superior technical skills for the role. Innovation : Creates and implements new and relevant approaches and activities that improve and expand the Y's work and impact in the community. Program/Project Management : Ensures program or project goals are met and intended impact occurs. Developing Self & Others : Develops self and supports others (e.g., staff, volunteers, members, program participants), both formally and informally, to achieve their highest potential. Emotional Maturity : Demonstrates ability to understand and manage emotions effectively in all situations.
